Our Mission

To provide a loving and safe forever home, for cats who have no place to call home, specializing in senior and hospice care.

This mission is our guiding force behind everything we do. Our goal is to prevent animal cruelty, repopulation and care for animals through hospice care. We help cats that are in crisis by meeting them at their point of need and by providing them a loving and safe forever home. For more than a hundred cats served by our forever program this past year, we have not only offered food and warmth during their crisis, but also hope and relief from any further cruelty.

Many communities we live and work in provide low cost spay/neuter and veterinary clinics. Those things help our communities and those that may be struggling.

We provide services to cats in crisis on a daily basis, 24 hours a day.

Our Goals

Our Goals are simple. We are always striving and looking for ways to make the cats lives better.

Our services are made possible primarily through donations by individuals as well as in kind items that are donated. We are looking for ways to obtain grants and additional funding to make improvements for the sanctuary, ongoing veterinarian costs and so much more.

Our current annual provisions include:

  • 3,900 lbs. of dry cat food
  • 52,416 cans of wet food
  • 21,480 lbs. of cat litter
  • 25,480 oz of dawn dish soap
  • 1, 092 rolls of paper towels
  • 36 veterinary and urgent care visits

As a point of reference, an annual gift of $5,000 designated to prevent cruelty to animals will provide assistance to 100 cats to shelter, care and feed them for two weeks.

Our hope would be that we can inspire other communities around the country to adopt our program and together we could become a positive force in preventing animal cruelty.

Our Logo

The yellow butterfly symbolizes hope and guidance. It was the symbol of the soul in early Christianity. It also means the soul is at peace when flying near the departed and in the Native American culture the butterfly is a valued symbol which brings guidance and a sign of hope.

Irish folklore believes that the yellow butterflies show that the departed souls of our loved ones are resting peacefully in their after life. It’s also been said that if you whisper a message to a butterfly, it will carry it to your loved ones. Every time I see one, I say, “I love you” and watch the butterfly take my message to heaven.

What People Are Saying About Us

Safe Haven Sanctuary has been recognized by Marion County Animal Services as a leader in this area. Their last visit to our sanctuary was conclusive that we provided a superlative program even compared to theirs. “This is miles ahead of anything we can offer these cats. Organized, clean and effective at providing a safe and loving home.”

All with the goal of preventing animal cruelty.

“Amazing and well done. Your care and concern for the animals is to be commended. So many people simply do not realize what you go through to care for these little creatures. A true loving heart for their care.”

– Jon Cantrell, Clay County Chamber President

Fun Facts

How do you remember all the cat names?
It’s easy! They are our children. We name them personally so we can identify with them. Choosing their names are a very important part of the process.

Homemade Chicken Soup
In the winter time, we make home made chicken soup for the cats every night. We cook the chicken legs for about 8 hours, then we mix in a blender and serve warm. Very easy and they LOVE IT!!! ♥ It helps to know in the winter they are drinking extra fluids!
